Design Depth
As an Interior Designer I always strive to add depth to a space. Depth is not always about paint, fabrics or flooring selections. How do I do it, you ask? Well, my absolute favorite way is to source antiques! Think about it. Antiques instantly add authenticity to a space by the textures & patina that has taken place over time. Why have every item in a space be brand new? Antiques tell a story of the past. And frankly, they do not make things like they used to. Antiques do not have to be out of the budget either. Half the enjoyment can be searching for that perfect item. Big or small. Often dealers are willing to negotiate a price. You certainly cannot negotiate in a brick & mortar store. Start small. Buy something that catches your eye and add it to a book shelve. Vintage books are a great way to add authenticity to shelving or a table. The added bonus of sourcing vintage & antique pieces……….they are so unique & individual. You cannot find that by procuring items at the big box shops. So, the next time you see an antique shop or flea market, stop. I am sure you will be happy you did.
